PPI describes pixels per inch in a digital image or display. DPI usually describes printer dot placement, though the terms are often mixed in everyday workflows.

How many pixels are needed for a 300 PPI print?

Multiply each print dimension in inches by 300. An 8 by 10 inch print needs 2400 by 3000 pixels.
